President Obama claims to have
value, principle and core beliefs when it comes to spending our money, our grand children's money and our great grand children's money. The truth of the
matter is very different when you begin to dig deeper. When you begin to look at what he has done
and what he has said during the campaign events, debates and throughout his
presidency.
In the Democratic debate that took
place in Philadelphia in 2008, then presidential candidate Barack Obama stated,
"You know, I believe in the principle that you pay as you go...".
Obama also attacked President George W. Bush during a campaign event in Fargo,
North Dakota July 3, 2008 saying, “The problem is, is that the way Bush has
done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of
China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt...”. Obama also
went on to say during that same event that what George W. Bush did was
“unpatriotic” and “irresponsible” to saddle future generations with such a
large debt. President Bush added $4 trillion to the national debt during his
presidency.
President Obama has made many
statements on how the government wastes money, but he is the biggest offender
of all. He obviously does not believe in the principle he stated in the 2008
presidential debate, otherwise as President of the United States he wouldn’t
have added $6.5 trillion to the national debt. To put that into perspective,
the national debt accumulated by the first 43 presidents totaled $6.3 trillion.
He has spent billions on failed programs such as Solyndra, a solar-energy
company who he gave $535 million to, so he could hold a press conference
celebrating his $787 billion stimulus package that he had passed. Solyndra is
now bankrupt.
The President has no intentions of
stopping the spending. Despite what he has said in the past, he continues to
push for more spending. In Obama’s weekly address on May 12, 2012 he asked the
Republican controlled congress for another $34.7 billion to help create more
jobs. This money is part of a more comprehensive $447 billion jobs package. For
somebody who ran on the platform of being fiscally responsible and attacking
George W. Bush for raising the debt celling, Obama seems to have no
consideration for the country’s financial stability. On March 16, 2006 then
Senator Obama said about raising the debt sealing, “ Washington is shifting the
burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren.” He
also said “America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership Americans
deserve better.”
Many people might say that the
President has no control over the spending that goes on. The fact is that President
Obama had a super majority of Democrats in the Senate and Congress when he took
office the first two years. During these two years, he could do almost whatever
he desired. During his first two years, Obama ran up a
$2.8 trillion deficit. Obama has only vetoed two bills which were both put
forward by the new Republican congress that took over in 2011. The Republicans
have since issued budget proposals and cuts which all get voted down when they
go to the Democrat controlled Senate.
The last day the Senate passed a
budget was April 9, 2009. I think if Obama wanted the Senate to pass a budget,
then he would have them do it. Obama is close with Senate Majority Leader Harry
Reid who if personally asked to make a budget by Obama, would most likely
oblige. Obama obviously does not want a budget passed because it would show how
outrageous his spending is. Obama’s latest budgets for 2013 were rejected by a
Democrat controlled Senate 99-0 and also by the Republican controlled Congress
who rejected it 414-0. As we see in this example, even when Obama puts forth a
budget, it is so outrages that every single Congressman and Senator from his
own party rejected it because they do not want to have their names tied to
something so irresponsible.
Obama ran on the platform of cutting
the deficit in half and fixing our spending problem but he has done nothing to
fulfill these promises. In fact, he has dramatically made it worse. He is piling
the debt on the backs of every American citizen, as well as our children,
grandchildren and our great grandchildren, and probably our great great
grandchildren as well. One thing I know and believe to be apparent to all is
that this President does not know what the word “budget” means.
